Heath Bar Squares

Recipe Source: “Keep Cooking –

  • 1 stick margarine
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 2 cups sifted flour
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 6 Heath bars, crushed


Combine margarine, sugars, flour and salt in a bowl, using a pastry blender and cutting in margarine as for pie crust. Reserve 1/2 cup of mixture to be used for topping.


Beat egg and add to remaining crumb mixture. Combine soda with buttermilk, add to mixture. Add vanilla and mix thoroughly. Turn into buttered 9x13 pan. Top with reserved mixture.


Crush Heath bars and sprinkle all over top of batter. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes. Place pan on rack to cool, cut into squares.
