The Robin's Nest

March 2022 Featured Business

by Clare Milton

Robins Nest Mar2022Spring has found a permanent home on the corner Appleton and Main Street in downtown Waterville. The Robin’s Nest, a full-service florist shop, has opened next to Portland Pie. Robin Getchell has landed her talented flock into a space triple the size of her Hathaway location. She has already increased her walk-in business. Robin opened the downtown location on the first of February geared up for the Valentine’s Day rush. Robin’s family and whole staff pitched in to deliver a record number of bouquets.

Robins Nest Mar2022 2Robin has always loved flowers, that love began early in life when her mother let her and her brother pick out packages of flower seeds to plant in their garden. Her interest in flowers continued to grow throughout her life and at 12 years old she began telling her friends and family that when she grew up she would own her own flower shop and name it The Robin’s Nest. She began working in local flower shops in her early 20s and learned floral design from some of the best floral designers in the area. She also learned the behind the scenes knowledge necessary to run a successful business, how to order products, forecast volume, negotiate prices and how to manage the cost of goods sold.

Robin took that training and opened The Robin’s Nest in the Hathaway Creative Center in June of 2018. The shop had 363 square feet of retail space and a workroom in the basement. Leaving the Hathaway was bittersweet for Robin and her staff, and they look forward to seeing all of their existing customers at their new 1,878 square foot showroom on Main Street.

Robin admits this business is a family affair. “I couldn’t do it without all of them. My husband, Allen, and I have been together for 34 years. Our first date was our senior prom. We have two children, Jake, now 25, and Ellie, who is 10. They all pitch in when needed.”

The Robin’s Nest employees are all knowledgeable of your fragrant flower options. Josh Steele is an amazing floral designer, ready to create an original on-the-spot design to bring your sentiments to life on any budget. Becky Ellis and the rest of the Robin’s staff take the time to listen to their customers’ needs. Her motto is “When words escape, flowers speak!”

The Robin’s Nest offers a wide variety of products. Sympathy and wedding arrangements, new baby, get well, birthday or anniversary bouquets are designed to say “I love you” too. One of her favorite bouquets are her “Everyday Bouquets” created to brighten someone’s day.

Robin will be celebrating her grand opening on March 16th with a Mid-Maine Chamber ribbon cutting ceremony while hosting the March “Business After Hours” event 5:30– 7:00pm.

She would like to sincerely thank all those who provided the meals, pizza, beverages, and good wishes while welcoming The Robin’s Nest into their Main Street family.
